Croatia: Rimac Bugatti starts operating

Rimac Automobile formally joined forces with Bugatti Automobiles on Tuesday under the recently announced company, Bugatti Rimac doo

The Rimac Group will be the main shareholder of Bugatti Rimac with 55% of the shares. Mate Rimac will hold its stake in Rimac Group at 35%, with Porsche at 22%, Hyundai Motor Group doing the same with 11% and other investors at 32%. The development, production and supply of battery systems, poles and other EV components for which Rimac is known and trusted by many automotive manufacturers will be split into a new entity – Rimac Technology, which will be 100% owned by Rimac Group.

Rimac’s exceptional dexterity, technical expertise and relentless innovation in the field of electric vehicles, along with Bugatti’s 110-year legacy of design and engineering of some of the world’s most iconic hypercars, are now combined in the company’s leading hypermachines. Porsche will play a strong role in the joint venture as a strategic partner. “In addition to the two managers, the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer will appoint two members of the Supervisory Board, Oliver Blume, Chairman of Porsche AG and Lutz Meschke, Vice President and CFO of Porsche AG,” the company said in a press release.

The leadership and strategic direction of Mate Rimac that has made Rimac become an industry leader means that he is extremely determined to lead the new company as CEO. As CEO of Rimac Group, he will lead Bugatti Rimac and the new division, Rimac Technology.

The Bugatti Rimac global headquarters is located at the current Rimac base on the outskirts of Zagreb, Croatia, but over time will move to the recently announced € 200 million, 200,000 m2 Rimac Campus, which also serves as Rimac’s home Technology.

With construction now underway, the joint research and development of the future Rimac Automobile and Bugatti supercars will finally take place on the Rimac Campus – which will open in 2023. High-tech innovation forms the basis of the most advanced facility, with the capacity to host 2500 people driven by curiosity and a hive of innovative developments. Bugatti Rimac starts operating with 435 employees as part of the new company, 300 of which will be headquartered in Zagreb and 135 in Molsheim, France. In addition, 180 people at the Bugatti Engineering site in Wolfsburg will support the new company. Rimac Technology will consist of over 900 employees. The Rimac Group has over 1,300 employees in various locations.

Rimac Automobile and Bugatti Automobiles will continue to operate each as separate brands and manufacturers, maintaining their individual production facilities in Zagreb and Molsheim respectively, as well as distribution channels.

Rimac Technology will continue to innovate, developing vehicle systems and technology for many global OEMs. Such an innovative technology can also be used in future Bugatti and Rimac models.
