The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, held a series of meetings today with the Heads of State and Government on the sidelines of the United Nations Summit on Climate Change (COP26).
The President of the Republic arrived this morning at the Glasgow Summit site, where he was received by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, whose country is hosting the Summit, and by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.
On the sidelines of the Summit, the President of the Republic had the opportunity to meet, among others, the President of the European Council Charles Michel, the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, the President of Ukraine, the Prime Ministers of Spain, Malta, Luxembourg, Libya, Kenya, Kuwait and others, with whom he discussed issues of common interest, relevant to the Summit agenda.
President Anastasiades then took part in the interventions of the heads of state planned to speak at the opening of the Summit today.
In the afternoon, the President of the Republic will take part in the reception organized by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in honor of the Heads of State and Government participating in the Summit.
The President of the Republic was accompanied at the Summit by the Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, Costas Kadis, the Government Spokesman Marios Pelicanos and the High Commissioner of the Republic to the United Kingdom, Andreas Kakouris.
Tomorrow, November 2, 2021, the President of the Republic will make his intervention in COP26./ibna
