Secretary of State Gašper Dovžan will address the participants of the second Plenary Session of the Conference on the Future of Europe on Saturday, October 23, 2021, as Co-Chair of the Executive Board of the Conference on the Future of Europe.
“The conference on the Future of Europe focuses on content of interest to European citizens. “They play a leading role in a wide-ranging debate on how the Union should be formed in the future to meet their expectations,” said Secretary of State Gašper Dovžan before the meeting. For the first time, the Plenary will discuss the contributions of citizens who have previously participated in the first meetings of the European Citizens’ Panel and citizens who have participated in national panels and events in the Member States or published on a multilingual platform. With the participation of citizens, the Conference Plenary will be a real meeting with citizens and for citizens. “As a country holding the Presidency, we are particularly pleased that the partners of the Western Balkans will participate for the first time, as the European future is also their future,” added Secretary Dovžan.
The plenary is expected to exchange views on European Citizens’ Colleges messages, national panels and events, and on the intermediate report on the multilingual digital platform. In addition to representatives of the European Parliament, the Council of the EU and the European Commission, 80 citizens ‘representatives elected from 800 European Citizens’ Colleges, 27 panel and event representatives from member states, civil society representatives, European Committee of the Regions, Economic Committee and European Social and elected representatives of local authorities will also attend the meeting. Western Balkan partners have also been invited to participate as guests.
