Cyprus: recorded increase in imports and exports in July 2021

The Statistical Service of the Republic of Cyprus has released the final data on the foreign trade of Cyprus for July 2021 and the preliminary data for August 2021.

The main developments in the foreign trade of Cyprus for July 2021 were:

Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and third countries) were € 796.4 million in July 2021 compared to € 676.1 million in July 2020, an increase of 17.8%.

Exports of domestically produced goods, including supplies by ship and aircraft, for July 2021 were 149.4 million euros compared to 129.1 million euros in July 2020, recording an increase of 15.7%. The value of exports of industrial products for July 2021 was 143.6 million euros compared to 121.3 million euros in July 2020, while the value of exports of agricultural products for July 2021 was 4.4 million euros compared to 5.5 million euros in July 2020.

Exports of foreign goods, including supplies by ship and aircraft, for July 2021 were 181.5 million euros compared to 84.4 million euros in July 2020, an increase of 115.0%.

Foreign trade statistics August 2021

Based on preliminary data, the main developments in Cyprus’ foreign trade for August 2021 can be summarized as follows:

Total imports of goods were € 665.8 million compared to € 496.9 million in August 2020, recording an increase of 34.0%. Imports from other EU Member States in August 2021 were 440.2 million euros and from third countries 225.5 million euros, compared to 333.2 million euros and 163.7 million euros respectively in August 2020. Imports in August 2021 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (ships), a total of € 90.1 million compared to € 30.3 million in August 2020.

Total exports of goods in August 2021 were 283.0 million euros compared to 199.8 million euros in August 2020, an increase of 41.6%. Exports to other EU Member States in August 2021 were € 52.8 million and to third countries € 230.2 million, compared to € 58.1 million and € 141.7 million respectively in August 2020. Exports in August 2021 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (ships), totaling 96.3 million euros compared to 44.6 million euros in August 2020.

Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and third countries) for the period January – August 2021 were 5,480.4 million euros compared to 4,821.1 million euros for the period January – August 2020, an increase of 13.7%. Total exports of goods (to EU Member States and third countries) for the period January – August 2021 were 1,931.9 million euros compared to 1,959.2 million euros for the period January – August 2020, a decrease of 1.4%. The trade deficit was 3,548.5 million euros for the period January – August 2021 compared to 2,861.8 million euros for the same period in 2020.
