Romania: Cioloș and Barna in the second round of the USR PLUS presidential election

Dacian Cioloș emerged the winner of the first round of the USR PLUS presidency, securing 46% of the vote against 43.9% for Dan Barna and 10% for Irinel Darău (10%).

Specifically, Dacian Cioloș received 15,111 votes, Dan Barna 14,404 and Irineu Darău 3,300 votes.

As none of the three co-candidates received more than 50% of the vote, a second round will be held, also online, between Mr Ciolos and Mr Barna, starting this morning at 10am and ending on 30/9, also at 10.00.

The result of the vote will be ratified at the USR PLUS Congress to be held on October 2 and 3, at the Romexpo premises in Bucharest. During the meeting, delegates from across the country will also elect members of the USR PLUS National (Political) Bureau.

At the PNL camp, which will hold a party congress on Saturday, Prime Minister Florin Ciu told B1 TV that PNL President Ludovic Orban and his rival at the party congress are aligning themselves with the USR and AUR, and are seeking votes from the PSD for bring down his government.
