Slovenia: More SMS and less MMS in Q2

In the 2nd quarter of 2021, Slovenian mobile network users generated more outgoing national calls, but less outbound national traffic than in the 2nd quarter of 2020. More SMS and fewer MMS messages were sent, said the national statistics agency.

“In the second quarter of 2021, over 1.4 million hours of outbound voice traffic (national and international) were recorded from the Slovenian fixed network. Outbound voice outbound traffic decreased by 7% on an annual basis. National fixed outbound traffic in the quarter of 2021 decreased by 6% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2020. Traffic from fixed networks to mobile increased by 9%, and only by business users by 14%. “International outgoing fixed-line telephony traffic fell by 16%,” the report said.

In the 2nd quarter of 2021, almost 23 million hours of total outbound traffic from Slovenian mobile networks were recorded. Outbound mobile traffic decreased by 4% on an annual basis. On an annual basis, outbound national mobile traffic also decreased by 4%, while outbound traffic on international mobile networks decreased by 9%. In one year, mobile traffic on fixed networks increased by 4%.

In the same period of 2021, almost 500 million outgoing calls were received from Slovenian mobile networks, 7% more than in the 2nd quarter of 2020. National and international outgoing mobile calls also increased by 7%. In one year the number of outgoing calls from mobile to fixed networks increased by 17%.

In the 2nd quarter of 2021, almost 574 million SMS messages were sent, 4% more than in the 2nd quarter of 2020. Private users sent 2% more and business users 12% more SMS messages than in the same quarter of 2020. Over 29 million MMS messages were sent, 6% less than in the 2nd quarter of 2020.

According to the statistics agency, over 56 million gigabytes of data were transferred to the mobile broadband. Data transfer via Wi-Fi wireless technology is not included. Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2020, data transfer increased by 26%.

At the end of the second quarter of 2021, there were almost 662,000 broadband internet connections in Slovenia. In one year, the total number of broadband internet connections increased by 4%. Of these, the number of fiber optic access connections, which account for 46% of all broadband connections, increased by 15%.
