Croatia will not add the US to the red list

The European Union has placed the United States on the coronavirus red list, which means that restoring restrictions on US travelers is recommended for EU members. Croatia, however, has decided that they will not follow suit.

A few days ago, the Council of the European Union recommended that EU members reinstate restrictions on American travelers. Removal from the EU safe list means that unnecessary travel is subject to temporary travel restrictions, such as testing, quarantine or a total ban. However, compliance with the recommendations is not mandatory.

Therefore, Croatia will not follow the EU recommendation that removed the US from the list of safe places to travel during the pandemic, confirmed Davor Božinović, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Chief of National Civil Defense, reports HRTurizam .

According to Croatian media, EU members have been advised to remove the US, Israel, Kosovo, Lebanon, Montenegro and Northern Macedonia from the list of safe countries, which means that travelers from those countries should subject to stricter border controls, such as coronavirus testing and Me quarantine

However, Croatian epidemiologists estimate that American and Israeli citizens do not pose a risk to Croatia in the event of tourist arrivals, as the epidemiological conditions for entry into the country have been determined.

The presence of American tourists in Croatia has been positive in August statistics so far, even September arrivals are still awaited. At the moment, the United States remains on Croatia’s safe list, which means that travelers coming from the US should not give any reason for their trip to enter Croatia. However, they will be required to prove that they have been vaccinated, tested negative or cured of COVID and that they have not spent any significant time outside the “green countries”.
