Radev: Pressure on Bulgaria for Northern Macedonia will intensify

“In the coming months, the pressure on Bulgaria for northern Macedonia will intensify,” said President Rumen Radev, who is on an official visit to Slovenia to attend the Bled Strategic Forum.

“The parties on which the formation of a regular Bulgarian government and parliament depends should take this into account and elect representatives to defend our national position before the EU,” Radev continued.

“Recognition of the Western Balkans remains a key priority of our foreign policy, but we expect progress in protecting the rights of people of Bulgarian conscience living in northern Macedonia. Of course, it is also important to stop falsifying Bulgarian history in the textbooks of the neighboring country. “Problems with Northern Macedonia can only be resolved through direct dialogue leading to real results,” the Bulgarian President concluded.

Northern Macedonia’s European perspective was at the center of issues Radev discussed with European Council President Charles Michel, EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi and US Undersecretary of State Matthew Boyse. / ibna
