The US Embassy in Pristina called on Kosovo citizens to be vaccinated against the coronavirus and confirmed that the US will donate over 700,000 doses of vaccines to Kosovo through the COVAX mechanism.
The US Embassy in a statement posted on Facebook said that the gift from the American people is the largest single donation of vaccines to Kosovo from any country or organization.
“This gift from the American people is the largest single donation of vaccines to Kosovo from any country or organization. When completed, the US donation will bring to over 700,000 the number of doses delivered through the COVAX mechanism … More vaccines are on the way. But vaccines only work if individuals are vaccinated. So please – get vaccinated to protect yourself, your families and your communities. “Together, we can defeat COVID-19,” the US Embassy said in a statement.
Last week, the United States donated the first tranche of 503,100 expected doses of the Pfizer vaccine to Kosovo authorities. The US Embassy said in a statement that this represents the single largest donation of COVID-19 vaccine from any country or organization in Kosovo. “With these doses, the Kosovo government will be able to fully vaccinate and protect its citizens, bringing it 20 percent closer to achieving its overall vaccination goal,” the US Embassy said.
Kosovo has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases and deaths in recent weeks despite the ongoing vaccination process. The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo in its update on Sunday announced that 11 people have died from COVID-19 and 1,682 cases have been tested positive in the last 24 hours. According to the Institute, there are 19,695 active cases of COVID-19 in Kosovo.
