Von der Leyen calls for the start of talks with Northern Macedonia, Albania

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, today from Strasbourg called on the EU to start accession negotiations with Northern Macedonia and Albania.

Von der Leyen addressed the European Parliament after a speech by Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša outlining Ljubljana’s priorities for the next six months. Janša also called on the countries of the Western Balkans to join the EU in this generation, so that their citizens can support the necessary reforms.

Last week during the Prespa Forum, Slovenian President Borut Pahor announced he would travel to Sofia this week to help find a solution to Bulgaria’s veto. Slovenian Foreign Minister Ance Logar also announced that one of his first visits would be to Bulgaria in a bid to resolve the veto issue in Sofia.
