Vucic: Serbia will not impose sanctions on China and Russia

Serbia will not impose sanctions on China and Russia even though it is on track to join the European Union, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told TV Happy on Monday.

“We are on the road to the EU. Serbia is a militarily neutral country. Serbia, unlike some other countries, which are on the European path, will not break its relations and has excellent relations with China and Russia. “We will not impose any sanctions either against China or against Russia, that’s all,” Vucic said.

“This is our policy, this is not a balance, this is the best policy, which was proven during the coronavirus, the purchase of vaccines and other things. This is the best policy for the citizens of the country and there is not much philosophy here. “We will continue this policy as long as we are able to implement it,” said the Serbian leader.

Thanks to its multi-vector policy, Belgrade is actively buying COVID-19 vaccines worldwide. Currently, Serbian citizens can choose either the Pfizer vaccines, China’s Sinopharm, the British-Swedish AstraZeneca vaccine, or Russia’s Sputnik V.

Serbia’s foreign policy course envisions EU accession while maintaining friendly relations with Moscow and Beijing, as well as developing ties with Washington. Serbia aims to maintain military neutrality by refusing to join NATO and other blocs.
