BiH: Tegeltija met with Varhely in Brussels

The President of the Council of Ministers of BiH Zoran Tegeltija talked in Brussels with the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Oliver Varhelyi on the current situation related to Covid-19 in BiH and the region, as well as on the European integration process.

“On this occasion, Tegeltija informed Varhelyi on the epidemiological situation in the country and stressed the importance of accelerated vaccination of the population to contain the spread of pandemics and to start the socio-economic recovery as soon as possible, showing the need for a dynamic and more equitable distribution of vaccines “, it is said in the press release of the Council of Ministers.

The meeting discussed the European integration process, and Tegeltija stressed that the European path has no alternative, adding that he highly appreciates Commissioner Varhelyi’s personal commitment and efforts in supporting BIH to make the right progress. He stressed that granting candidate status for EU membership would be an incentive and a good message to BiH citizens that the EU has serious intentions regarding the continuation of the accession process.

They jointly assessed that the authorities at all levels in BIH, in line with the agreed coordination mechanism, should invest additional efforts in the faster and more effective implementation of the reform processes, in order to accelerate BIH’s European path. They exchanged views on other topics, such as migration issues and improving regional co-operation.

During his stay in Brussels, Tegeltija also met with the European Parliament Permanent Rapporteur on BiH and EPP Vice President Paolo Rangel.

At the meeting, which discussed the European future of BiH, President Tegeltija informed the EU Rapporteur on BiH Rangel about the activities that the Council of Ministers undertakes for a faster and more effective implementation of the reform processes, as the main precondition for continuing the European path. .

President Tegeltija noted that despite the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemics, BIH has shown its commitment to European integration and it has made progress in meeting the 14 key priorities, suggesting a need to increase EU support for status of the candidate.

President Tegletija thanked Rapporteur Rangel for his commitment to recognizing the efforts and demonstrating the progress made by BIH in the face of the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemics.
