The defense ministers of Turkey and the United States had a telephone conversation Thursday to discuss regional security and bilateral defense co-operation.
Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar and US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin exchanged views and stressed the importance of strategic relations, according to the Turkish Defense Ministry.
They underlined the importance of developing mutual understanding on the issue of regional and global security, as well as resolving issues based on their strategic partnership and the spirit of alliance.
The Turkish ministry added that Akar and Austin reaffirmed their commitment to closer co-operation and co-ordination, while strengthening military relations between the two countries.
Akar also congratulated Austin once again on his appointment in January.
