The Slovenian State Attorney’s Office dismissed a criminal complaint against Uros Urbani, director of the Government Communications Office (UKOM), filed by the Slovenian Journalists’ Union in connection with the suspension of funding to the Slovenian Press Agency (STA).
As it is known, the Government Communications Office refused to pay the bills to the Slovenian Press Agency, as the director of STA Bojan Veselinović did not want to submit the documentation to UKOM in accordance with his contractual obligations when it comes to the use of taxpayers’ money. “By refusing to pay the bills, UKOM merely complied with the provisions of the Agreement between UKOM and STA,” UKOM said in a press release.
At the same time, the district attorney general also dismissed a criminal complaint against former UKOM director Kristina Plavšak Krajnc in connection with the signing of a Public Service Contract, in which the signatories designated the Government Communications Office as “the founder’s representative “. In November 2020, STA Director Bojan Veselinoviin, despite signing the contract, claimed that UKOM had no government powers.
Along with the fact that the district prosecutor’s office dismissed the criminal complaint, UKOM welcomed the prosecutor’s claims that “STA receives funding from the state budget on the basis of an annual contract between the founder and STA”, adding that “only the shortcomings (expressed power) to enter into such a contract is not relevant in terms of criminal law. ”
Following the decision by the prosecutor’s office, UKOM expects that STA Director Bojan Veselinovi menjëherë will immediately submit all required documentation to the Government Communications Office, as it becomes clear from the above and the signed Treaty that UKOM is a “representative of founders “.
