Kosovo: Lajcak’s visit continues; meetings were held with Kurti and Osmani

The EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue kicked off the second day of his visit to Pristina. Miroslav Lajcak, who arrived on Monday, began his meetings with the US Ambassador and the KFOR Commander.

Lajcak announced his meetings on his Twitter account.

Arriving in Kosovo today, I met with the US Ambassador and the Commander of NATO KFOR to talk about current developments. “A good opportunity to reaffirm our strong transatlantic unity,” Lajcak wrote.

US Ambassador Phillip S. Kosnett announced his meeting with Lajcak on Twitter.

“In today’s meeting with the EU Special Representative, [we] reaffirmed US support for an EU-led collaborative dialogue process. Our goal: a comprehensive solution and deeper Euro-Atlantic integration that benefits all citizens of Kosovo and Serbia. ”

Lajcak then met with Vetëvendosje Movement leader Albin Kurti, whose party won early elections on February 14th.

After the meeting, Kurti, a candidate for Prime Minister, told T7 that Lajcak informed him in general about the dialogue process. “I explained to him once again that we have won the election and that our program will focus on justice and employment as we are now in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are not against dialogue, but we want well-prepared talks with the authorities,” said Kurti.

“[Dialogue] it may not be our first or second priority because we have justice and employment. I do not deny the importance of the EU dialogue for Kosovo and Serbia, as well as for the region, but the most important thing is that this dialogue must be well prepared. “Dialogue must be honest and not under time pressure, but we remain committed to a meaningful process,” Kurti said.

The EU Special Representative posted on Twitter that he had a good and constructive meeting with Kurti. We also discussed in depth the Dialogue with a view to the next steps.

Miroslav Lajcak, who arrived in Pristina on Monday afternoon, met with current Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani on Tuesday morning.

In a Twitter post, Lajcak wrote: “It started day 2 in Kosovo with a very useful conversation with Interim President Vjosa Osmani. We talked about the recent elections and current developments. “And we also discussed the next steps in the Dialogue.”

After the meeting, Lajcak and Osmani will hold a joint press conference.
