Slovenia: Europe’s green and digital recovery is possible only through effective co-operation and co-ordination, Logar says

Slovenian Foreign Minister Anže Logar addressed the participants of the 5th EU Strategy Forum for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) on Thursday, with this year’s slogan “Strengthening the resistance of the Adriatic and Ionian region through co-operation”. . In the virtual forum held during Slovenia’s presidency with EUSAIR, the Minister underlined that Europe’s green and digital recovery can only be achieved through effective cooperation and coordination at both the regional and global levels.

“In his opening remarks, Minister Logar set the example of the successful development of the COVID-19 vaccine and its distribution as proof that such cooperation can indeed be achieved. In this regard, the role of macro-regional strategies will depend on the extent to which its priorities have been successfully integrated into the programming documents of the EU financial mechanisms, “the Ministry said in a press release.

The European Commission’s support for this process during the Slovenian presidency of EUSAIR is a great achievement, added Minister Logar.

At Slovenia ‘s initiative, new forms of co – operation are being developed within the macro – region, especially in relation to the EU enlargement process. The new members are eager to join EUSAIR, which proves that the Adriatic-Ionian macro-regional strategy has become an extremely important tool for cooperation in the region. Northern Macedonia joined the group of participating members last year, while this year the Republic of San Marino has also expressed interest in joining EUSAIR. Minister Logar concluded his speech by inviting participants to the 6th Annual Forum, which will be organized by Slovenia at the end of its presidency in May, in Portorož.

Minister Logar kicked off the two-day event with Serbian Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic, European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reform Elisa Ferreira, European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi and Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs of Northern Macedonia Nikola Dimitar. The forum was hosted by the Republic of Serbia, which had to postpone the event due to the start of the pandemic during its presidency of EUSAIR.
