Bulgarian Defense Minister Krasimir Karakachanov commented on tensions in relations between Greece and Turkey during a meeting of the Parliamentary Defense Committee.
Deputy Prime Minister for Security and Defense Minister Krasimir Karakachanov told the Parliamentary Committee on Defense that if tensions rise between Athens and Ankara in the Aegean, Bulgaria will suffer first. The blow will be economic, the Deputy Prime Minister warned. Bulgaria has not taken clear military action. “Our activism in one direction or another, knowing the history of relations in the Balkans, can only increase tension, not help de-escalate,” Karakachanov said.
“Bulgaria ‘s position is that the contentious issues between our neighbors should be resolved through negotiations and dialogue and not through the use of threats and military force,” he said.
